The man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk allegedly engraved messages into bullet casings before killing him on Wednesday in Utah, officials said.
Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested and charged with suspicion of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily harm, and obstruction of justice charges.
According to a press conference, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox says authorities have yet to reveal a motive, but they did describe evidence they recovered, which they say could shed light on the attack, AP reported.
Cox says engravings on bullet casings were recovered from a Mauser .30-caliber, bolt-action rifle believed to have been used in the attack, including one that said, “Hey, fascist! Catch!” Cox said.
Another engraving found on the bullet casing allegedly fired at Kirk read “notices, bulges, OwO, what’s this?”
Authorities also recovered chat messages that discussed hiding a rifle and engraving bullets, authorities said.
On Wednesday, Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the organization Turning Point USA, was killed by a single shot while speaking at an event on the Utah Valley University campus.
The attack was captured on grisly videos that spread on social media. The videos show Kirk speaking into a microphone when suddenly a shot rings out.
Robinson is believed to have fired from the roof of a building 200 yards away from the event. Police said it was a targeted attack and the governor called it a political assassination.
He was arrested after a 33-hour manhunt, after he allegedly confessed, or implied a confession, to a family member
That family member then contacted a family friend, who informed the sheriff’s office, officials said.
Robinson is believed to have acted alone, and the investigation is ongoing.
