Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris confirmed that two people have died as a result of the shooting
Sheriff Norris said the shooter or shooters remain active. Deputies are unsure whether there is a single suspect or multiple individuals involved, but confirmed that sniper fire is still occurring. It has not been confirmed, but Sheriff Norris said he believes the two people killed were firefighters.
Deputies believe the suspect intentionally set the fire to lure law enforcement and firefighters to the scene.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said it will hold another press conference at 9:30 p.m. PDT.
Multiple heroic firefighters were attacked today while responding to a fire in North Idaho. This is a heinous direct assault on our brave firefighters. I ask all Idahoans to pray for them and their families as we wait to learn more. Teresa and I are heartbroken.
