Pregnant woman and unborn child killed in Vero Beach home invasion

A pregnant woman was shot and killed during a home invasion over the weekend near Vero Beach, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) revealed during a news conference.

As a result of the shooting, her unborn child also died, Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers said. An additional person was injured as a result of the home invasion, Flowers said.

“It is a heinous crime. It is a terrible situation,” Flowers said.

According to IRCSO, the shooting happened on Sunday at around 3:45 a.m. at a home on the corner of 23rd Place SW and 6th Way SW. CBS12 News spoke to neighbors who believed that the victims were a 19-year-old pregnant family member and the teen’s unborn child. At this time, officials have not confirmed how old the pregnant woman was when she was shot and killed.

Flowers also said that deputies had been to the home where the homicide occurred several times.
