The family creates balloon art to boost spirits during the COVID-19 pandemic

Pensacola, Florida

The Germantown man is using balloon art to make people feel better during the pandemic and his creative designs are exploding in popularity.

John Witzel’s creations appear in his front yard.

“I just love balloons,” said Witzel.

He and his daughter Nora use their imaginations to get creative.

“I feel proud and excited to be doing this, and it makes me happy,” she said.

A masterpiece may take a few hours to complete, but the final product is what makes it worth it.

“Some of them believe they are alive.” John Witzel said, “They literally think the balloons are still alive.”

It’s just a hobby, Witzel said, but since the pandemic, he’s been in success.

He said, “My favorite was a nurse wearing a little mask with nice curly hair.” “This and Harry Potter were two of my favorites.”

Every week you can see new designs in the Wetzels yard.

“It’s something we know how to do, so why not put it in the corner so everyone can enjoy the past. I’m smiling a little to make everyone’s day sparkle.”

“I’m really happy everyone is seeing it,” said Nora Witzel.

Bait Fishing – Ideal Walleye Boats, Motors, and Accessories

Pensacola, fl

Most walleye or pickerel fisherman who fish on large open water lakes and reservoirs normally will use 16 to 18 foot boats with a large deep v design. Good bait fishing for walleye motor would be between 25hp and 75 hp in size. On very large lakes such as Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, and Lake Ontario most walleye and pickerel anglers us large 25 to 30ft boats with a deep v design because of the extreme weather conditions that can develop on the great lakes. Storms can happen very quickly on these lakes and good boat is needed to ride out the storm , or head for safety fast.

For smaller lakes and rivers a 14 ft semi v boat design will work when your bait fishing for walleye. For these smaller boats you need to have between a 10 to 15hp motors. Small 14 ft boats have been used to catch more walleye or pickerel then any other boat and motor combination. You can use flat bottom boats or other low profile tri hull designs on small to medium lakes and rivers but do not use them on large open water because they do not cut through waves very well.

Many walleye fisherman use aluminum boats because they are lighter, more durable and less expensive then fiberglass boats. One thing about fiberglass boats is the may be more expensive but they are much quieter an and don’t leak as easy as aluminum boats.

Small boats with motors under 25 hp work great for bait fishing for walleye or pickerel because they can be slowed to a acceptable speed for trolling. Trolling is a very important walleye and pickerel fishing method of fishing.

If you are or want to be a serious walleye and pickerel fisherman then there are some very important accessories you should have on your boat. You need to have a tiller handle for your motor so you have total control of your direction when back trolling for walleye and pickerel. You need to have a good depth finder and fish finder to get on fish quickly. You should have a transom mounted electric trolling motor with a bow mounted foot pedal for when you are bait fishing for walleye and pickerel casting with artificial plugs and other lures. You should have GPS so you can document good fishing spots. Also it would be good to have surface water temperature gauge mounted on the boat somewhere, so you can identify ideal walleye temperatures. All of these walleye and pickerel bait fishing accessories can make your next fishing trip more rewarding.

Deep Sea Fishing Charters

Pensacola, fl

Deep sea fishing is considered a sport where amateur or professional fishermen embark into the deepest parts of the water in search of a catch. The types of fish associated with the deep sea are those that live below what is called the “photic zone” of the ocean. In the deep sea, some of the oddest creatures have been known to dwell. The names given to these fish are just as fascinating, including the lanternfish, cookiecutter shark, anglerfish, and the flashlight fish.

When deep sea fishing, you should keep in mind that there are several endangered varieties of fish to avoid during your adventures. Due to the high levels of commercial fishing, species like the spiny eel and the onion-eye grenadier are nearing extinction.

What is a Deep Sea Fishing Charter?

Deep sea fishing charters are boats ran by a company or individual that will take tourists out on the water for a fishing experience they will never forget. Depending on the time of year, the type of fish you will expect to catch varies. Checking the calendars for the area you wish to engage in deep sea fishing is recommended if this is of concern to you.

When participating in a deep sea fishing charter, you can decide whether you wish to bottom fish or troll. Sometimes, both options are selected. If trolling doesn’t seem to produce the results you had hoped for, deep sea fishing charters can pull close to the reef and let you have your way with the fish in that area. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, trolling means that you cast a baited line in the water and wait for fish to latch on, while slowly driving the boat.

If you have your mind set on catching a particular fish, you should be aware of where they reside. This means you may have to travel quite a ways to hire a deep sea fishing charter to accomplish your goal. There are deep sea fishing charters located all over the globe.

Common Deep Sea Fishing Charter Options & Locations

Deep sea fishing charters are available in a wide-range of locations about the United States, as well as around the world. Some of the more popular deep sea fishing charters has been established around the Florida area, such as Pensacola, Key Largo, Key West, and Tampa Bay. Additional deep sea fishing opportunities can be found in Biloxi, Mississippi; New Jersey; New Hampshire; Hawaii; Charleston, South Carolina; Orange Beach, Alabama; Cape Cod; British Columbia; and the Gulf of Mexico. More exotic destinations for deep sea fishing include Phuket; Mexico; and the Bahamas.

An example of a deep sea fishing charter may include fishing for a full day, which is about 8 hours of fun. Departure times usually start at 7:30 in the morning. Sometimes, 6-hour charters and 3-hour options are available. In the Florida Keys, there is a deep sea fishing charter that offers swordfish trips, where participants leave the dock at 3 pm and return about 4:00 in the morning. The going rate for this selection is close to $1300. There is also sunrise to sunset deep sea fishing options.

In Cancun, there are deep sea fishing charters that provide all-inclusive packages. While you are on the hunt for Kingfish, Barracuda, Tuna, Wahoo and Blue Marlin, you will rest assured knowing that you have obtained a boat captain, crew, fishing tackle, bait, beer, soda, water, a fishing license, as well as port fees and taxes, all through one package rate. Keep in mind, after a pleasant deep sea fishing trip, it is polite to tip the crew

Gulf of Mexico Algae Bloom and Red Tide Eco-Disaster

Pensacola, fl

The growing Algae Bloom about 80 miles of the Coast of Fort Myers, FL is producing an environmental problem of epic proportions. The algae bloom is where the red tide comes from which kills aquatic life, poisons ocean mammals and shellfish. This is particularly alarming because of the problems to the food chain. Humans eat many of these fish and so do our mammal sea life friends. The Red Tide contains a neurotoxin, which is quite serious. When Hurricanes come through they do reduce the algae bloom by diluting it but in doing so they often can spread it around. Now it affects a huge area, which has poisoned sea life from Pensacola to the Florida Keys, making fish caught undesirable to eat.

I propose coating Cruise ships which travel near the algae bloom or through it with an environmentally engineered algae bloom-eating bacteria. I further propose that they release large spongy material, which has timed released anti-algae bloom eating material. It is a shame to see our Gulf of Mexico in such disrepair with such large dead zone regions after we allowed nitrogen and fertilizers to run-off into the coastal waters causing this algae bloom. We also inadvertently pump out millions of tons of sludge, sewage and chemicals into our oceans each year. Since we have caught cruise lines dumping non-potable water and sewer water into the ocean, surely they can assist us in cleaning up the algae bloom. We simply give them the materials to throw out when they cruise through them? We have modern coatings and environmental dispensers, which can do this and we can have the cruise ships become our delivery mechanism to help eat the algae bloom down to a manageable level.

I further propose that the Cruise Lines stop near the algae bloom and allow our researchers and scientists to launch Underwater Autonomous Vehicles (AUVs) to clean the algae bloom by delivering encapsulated timed release bio-remediation materials; we may find that we can clean the large volume of water very quickly. We would have to set up the AUVs in an underwater grid pattern and they could run on Solar Power and Electricity or Hydrogen Cell Hybrid Systems.

In trade for the assistance we should allow free dumping of the sewage from the cruise ships into POTW in Florida and remove the taxes on their fuel purchases, which go to State and Federal Agencies. Economically speaking we will get our money back by increased fishing, lower health care costs and increased tourism that the Red Tide drives away. You see, timed released biological and environmental remediation is nothing new, many environmental engineers use this to help reduce large algae blooms which threaten drinking water supplies, affect water quality or are a danger to sea life.

A woman dies in a boat accident on ancient Hickory Lake

Pensacola, Fl

A 23-year-old woman died Sunday in a boat accident on ancient Hickory Lake.

The woman slipped from a boat into the lake and hit her head, Captain Dale Grandstaff of Tennessee Wildlife Resources told News 2.

Her body was pulled out of the water around 9 pm, according to Captain Grandstaff.

Her identity was not immediately revealed.

“Statewide we have seen 24 deaths this year, two this weekend. One was in the Watts Bar Reservoir on Saturday and the other locally was yesterday in Drakes Creek,” Captain Grandstaff explained.

“People just want to go out and have a good time and it is the right place to come and have fun with your friends. But water is a dangerous place and if you are not careful things like drowning will happen. No matter how many officers, things will happen, so we at least try to be a deterrent to monitor the process.” Drinking and recklessness, “Captain Grandstaff continued.

Due to COVID-19, there has been an increase in the number of boats on the area’s lakes this summer, and this weekend was no exception.

TWRA boating officer Clay Heitland explained that “a lot of the fallout from COVID with people canceling vacations, canceling plans, on waterways, we’ve seen a massive increase in traffic volumes.”

TWRA said that with so many accidents and deaths this summer, they are preparing for their patrols.

“We’ll have several officers in the lake here every day, three or four boats here every day,” said Hitland, “We’re going to patrol, and we’re really going to watch these disabled drivers, for those individuals who shouldn’t be driving the boat here on the water. And then when they get back to Boat ramp, they’ll take a vehicle. So we’re going to try to stop that on the water before it ever happens. “

The most important thing you can do on the water, Hitland said, is to wear a life jacket.

“The only thing I can stress is how important it is to wear a life jacket here on the water. Our dead, unfortunately, when they jumped or fell into the water, they weren’t wearing a life jacket. So again, I can’t express how important it is to wear a life jacket. Any child 12 years old or younger must wear one at all times while the boat is in motion.

1 dead and 4 wounded, after shooting on the north side of Indy

Pensacola, Fl

One man was killed and four others injured following an early morning house party in Butler Tarrington.

Police believe the spat at the party in Graceland led to dozens of shots being fired.

According to the fraternal police order, there were now over 1,000 people shot or stabbed in the city in just over 300 days. That’s an average of more than three a day, every day, for about an entire year.

Everyone is tired of these numbers.

“This is the case when you shoot someone. This is what happens. This is the fallout. People are suffering,” said shooting victim Clayton Franklin.

Clayton was not one of the five victims of the Graceland shooting, but he knows the pain the shooting can cause.

Speaking from his hospital bed, through his windpipe into his throat and mouth shut, Clayton recalls being shot nearly two weeks ago while working in a car outside a home in Chester.

“I don’t want anyone else going through what I’m going through now. There’s no reason for that.” Franklin said, “Put guns aside.

“We have to get everyone involved, because there are so many people who don’t have a moral compass and don’t care about the sanctity of human life,” said Rev. Charles Harrison of Indy Ten Point.

While it is unclear what triggered the early morning shootings on Graceland, Pastor Harrison blames easy access to guns and rules of silence for the ongoing escalation in citywide violence.

“I’ve said this before, we have to learn to work together and handle conflict resolution without carrying a gun and harming someone,” said William Young, IMPD Officer.

Clayton was hospitalized for 10 days without being out in sight. He hopes that everyone is aware of the emotional impact that the daily shootings have on many families like him.

“We don’t have to do that. We don’t have to shoot each other. We don’t have to kill each other,” Franklin said.

The Graceland shooting is just ten homes from where 10-year-old Deshawn Swanson was killed in 2015.

The body was found near the Baldwin County Welcome Center

Pensacola, Fl

An investigation is underway into the death after the Baldwin County Police Office said a body was found near a welcome center off Highway 10.

Representatives said the body had been found by a transport worker and that it would be sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

It’s a weekend so people will travel today. We are leaving the area, so there shouldn’t be a lot of law enforcement other than regular patrols. The comfort zone is open and we don’t think there is any kind of threat, “says Lieutenant Andre Reed.

Lt. Reed says one of them that they are able to identify the victim, they will notify the family and then follow the strings to find out how the body ended up in the woods.

If you know anything, or if it’s a missing friend or family member, he says, call the sheriff’s office.
