Tragedy struck in Haines City as a 24-year-old woman from Kissimmee lost her life following a head-on collision with a pickup truck late one evening, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) reported.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident unfolded on Hatchineha Road, just east of Jennings Road North. The woman, driving a Nissan Sentra, attempted to overtake another vehicle when the crash occurred. Traveling in the opposite direction was a pickup truck, driven by a 30-year-old man from Lakeland.
Both drivers tried desperately to avoid the collision, PCSO officials stated. Despite their efforts, the vehicles collided. Emergency responders rushed both individuals to a nearby hospital. Sadly, the woman succumbed to her injuries the following day. The pickup driver sustained significant injuries but is expected to recover.
Authorities closed Hatchineha Road in both directions for approximately three hours while investigating the scene. The PCSO continues to investigate the factors leading up to this fatal crash.
