Grundy County Sheriff’s deputy shot, suspect captured


GRUNDY COUNTY (WEEK) – A suspect is in custody for the shooting Thursday of a Grundy County Sheriff’s deputy, who is said to be recovering from his injuries.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy was shot after a traffic stop about 5:10 p.m. on Illinois Route 47 in Mazon, which is between Dwight and Morris. Police said the vehicle sped away, was involved in two separate car crashes, then stopped at a railroad crossing where the suspect fled on foot.

The deputy tried to chase him , but was wounded when the man fired multiple shots, according to police.

The officer was reported to be in stable condition.

Police said Thursday evening that the suspect, believed to be about 18-years old, had been captured.
