Arson causes estimated $70K in damages to Peoria home


PEORIA (WEEK) – No injuries were reported after crews responded to a house fire Monday night.

At approximately 5:31 p.m. Peoria Firefighters and paramedics arrived to a 2 1/2 story house on the 1800 block of North California Avenue.

Heavy smoke was found in the home, as well as fire on the stairs leading up to the second floor. There were also separate fires in two of the upstairs bedrooms.

Crews searched the home and did not find any occupants inside.

According to a press release, Peoria Fire Department Battalion Chief Clinton Kuhlman said an investigator was called in to investigate the cause of the fire and determined it was arson.

The estimated cost in damages is $70K.
