Dunlap (WEEK) – People from all over Central Illinois gathered in Dunlap to celebrate Schlachtfest as German American Heritage month kicked off.
The fest was hosted by the Peoria German Society and offered traditional German food and entertainment.
Society member, Jeff Pulfer said people dressed in German outfits to make the event as authentic as possible.
Pulfer said these events taught people about German history, while they enjoyed activities the fest had to offer.
“I want people to be aware that even though you may be several generations removed from your ancestors coming over from Germany, come out and share with us your German heritage,” Pulfer said.
Pulfer said he looked forward to celebrating his German heritage all month long.
