MORTON (WEEK) — Throughout the weekend, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5921 is giving guests an up-close look at the American Civil War through an educational reenactment called ‘A Call to Arms’.
All weekend, visitors can learn about what caused the Civil War and how Union and Confederate soldiers lived and fought.
There are camp life demonstrations, battle scenes, and even reenactments of speeches delivered by Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant.
“Everybody that comes here puts a lot of work into their passion, and their passion is history,” event director Alex Timmerman said. “We get to come out here for a weekend and experience history on a deeper level, we get to live a little differently. When we come out here, everything back home kind of disappears for the weekend.”
Those who are interested in attending the event can head down to VFW Post 5921 on Sunday, Oct 3. The event goes on all day, with a live battle scene set for 2:30 p.m.
