PEORIA (WEEK) — Loved ones are remembering a woman who died after a street racing crash in early September.

50-year-old Jackie McDuffie, who lived with down syndrome, was in the car with her caregiver when they were hit by a car. Police said that man was street racing.

Her caregiver, Debbie Smith, is still in the hospital in critical condition. McDuffie died last weekend.

Smith’s daughter, Michelle Smith, said McDuffie and her mother did not deserve this.

“She was sweet, she loved her music, she loved writing, loved her puzzles, and last but not least, we’re not going to know how to tell my mother that she’s gone (Jackie),” said Smith.

Smith said she now hopes to see the man who was arrested for this crash, held responsible.
