NORMAL (WEEK) — Rivian’s Normal facility gave a tour of their plant as well as a “First-Mile” experience and 25 News got the chance to get behind the wheel of one of their new electric vehicles.
Guests went on a battery-powered adventure at Rivian’s First Mile experience Sunday, where drivers got to test out the company’s new R1T on the new adventure test track.
Skyler Williams, who preordered his in December 2018, came all the way from Dallas, Texas to take his new set of wheels for a spin.
“This is the first time that I’ve actually been able to sit in one, drive one — and it is amazing.
Senator Dick Durbin was on hand to test drive the R1T — calling the trucks “the future.”
He said electric vehicles will benefit the state’s economy and help protect the environment.
“This is an amazing commitment for a company that has a very bright future,” he said. “And it means good-paying jobs for Central Illinois and opportunities for families.”
“And that’s what we’re all about.”
Rivian also gave a tour of their new 3.3 million square foot facility, where guests got to see firsthand how the electric vehicles are made before they hit the road.
