PEORIA HEIGHTS (WEEK) — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2602 hosted its first annual “bikini-style” carwash fundraiser Sunday afternoon.

Dozens of cars showed up to get their wheels freshly shined and help raise money for an important cause.

All of the funds from Sunday’s wash go toward ‘Veterans Helping Veterans’ – a local organization that has provided nearly 600 wheelchairs to veterans who need them.

Carwash organizer Brittany Lohman said around 60 cars showed up for the inaugural fundraiser, and the crew raised more than $1000.

“It’s just an amazing feeling to know that you can help out the community in such a simple way,” Lohman said. “It is such a life impact on a lot of people who need these chairs and can’t afford them.”

VFW Post 2602 hosts many events throughout the year, including a weekly quarter auction.
