Pekin (HEART OF ILLINOIS ABC) – Over a hundred floats took part in the 48th year that flowers filled downtown streets of Pekin for the Marigold Festival in Pekin.
The city’s chamber of commerce called Pekin the marigold capital of world.
For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic the community came together to enjoy the festival. Festival floats tossed candy out to all the residents who came out.
Along with the parade there was art in the park, a carnival, a movie night, and more.
“It’s just one of Pekin’s greatest weekends. I hope they leave with a sense of Pekin. Pekin is a great community to live in, work in and play in. I hope they get a little taste of Pekin and how wonderful the city is,” Festival Chairman Josh Hafliger said.
The festival also introduced a new royal to Pekin. Elisabeth Sandoval said she spent 13 years dreaming about being named the Marigold Queen.
