Illinois State made a splash to open its football season, downing Butler 49-7 at Hancock Stadium Saturday night.
The Redbird offense was firing on all cylinders in their victory, tallying 440 total yards. Quarterback Bryce Jefferson threw for 193 yards and tallied 2 touchdowns. Running back Cole Mueller rushed for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns on the night.
Illinois State is now 1-0 on the season. The team will go on the road to face Western Michigan next Saturday.
