PEORIA (WEEK)- Today in light of International Overdose Day I spoke to one of the organizers from The Jolt Foundation, Chris Schaffner.

“Their afraid to ask for help or call 911 for help for fear of being criminalized. So, we see an increase in people overdosing and dying because of it” says Schaffner. He goes on to detail how there is a stigma against individuals who are suffering from drug abuse. Substance abuse is a disease claiming the lives of 95,000 people in 2020 alone.

The Jolt Foundation offers resources addressing mental and physical oppressions centered around drug abuse. The organization welcomes family and love ones of those facing habit problems.

Despite the alarming overdose rates The Peoria County Coroner says, “I know nationally their seeing a spike in overdose death but we’re not seeing a spike we’re just seeing a steady amount just exactly where we were last year.”

If you or someone you know if battling problems concerning addiction or substance abuse please connect with The Jolt Foundation, Home – Jolt Foundation | Drug Awareness, Harm Reduction, Peoria, Illinois
