BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) — Residents of the Twin Cities came out in big numbers Sunday afternoon for a “Back the Blue” rally in support of local law enforcement.
Back the Blue Central Illinois president Karin Miller said it was a way to humanize the badge.
The event served to thank police for their service to the community, and it raised money for several local organizations in the process – Boys & Girls Club, Special Olympics Illinois and the Children’s Protection Network, just to name a few.
“I think it’s important that people understand that most officers that serve are doing because they want to make a difference,” said vice president Wendy Carlton, whose husband is a police officer.
Sunday’s was the second rally the group has held and organizers said they plan to host more events in the future.
They said the main goal is to uplift local police officers, show them love and help boost morale.
