MORTON (WEEK) — About 100 of Katie King’s closest friends, family, and students gathered to remember the second grade teacher at Bethel Lutheran School Saturday.

The school put together a garden for King, a bench with lady bugs and flamingoes, which were King’s favorite animals, that organizers said represents her students from last year and her family. The memorial also included an angel statue and a photo of King and her second grade class.

King was killed in a multi-vehicle car crash in May.

King’s sister Jennifer Selock describes her as a sweet, kind person who always showed love and care for other people.

She said the turnout showed how loved she was.

“Katie was this bubbly and outgoing individual who loved to give and not receive,” Selock said. “She was probably th most selfless person I’ve ever met.”

Selock said it has been tough to talk about the death of her sister while the family still grieves, but she said she is grateful for the memorial and the community that keeps King’s name alive.
