UPDATE (10:00 a.m. Aug. 20): A second evacuation warning has been added for the area of Black Gulch, north of Highway 178. Here’s a map of all the evacuation orders and warnings.
UPDATE (8:30 a.m. Aug. 20): The French Fire has burned 4,272 acres and containment remains at 5 percent, fire officials said Friday morning. The two evacuation orders and an evacuation warning remain in effect.
UPDATE (9 p.m. Aug. 19): Fire officials said the French Fire is at 5% containment and has burned 3,223 acres Thursday night. An evacuation order was added for Keyesville south, from the intersection of Black Gulch Road and Forest Route 26S06 east to Highway 155.
UPDATE (1:11 p.m. Aug. 19): An evacuation warning has been added near Wofford Heights from Rancheria Road east to Wofford Boulevard and between Highway 155 south to Old State Road, according to the Kern County Fire Department.
An evacuation order remains for Wagy Flat Road east to Isabella Lake, between Old State Road south to Keyesville.
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The French Fire near Lake Isabella has burned 3,223 acres since it started Wednesday evening. Evacuation orders remain in place for nearby residents. The fire is at 0% containment.
Cindy Thill with the National Forest Service said the fire began Wednesday afternoon in an area with heavy timber. The fire was reported in the area of Wagy Flat and Sawmill roads just after 4:30 p.m. Multiple firefighting aircraft have been called to put out the flames.
Kern County Fire said evacuation orders are in effect for the Sawmill community. The Red Cross has set up a temporary evacuation center at the Kern River Valley Senior Center at 6403 Lake Isabella Road in Lake Isabella.
