MASON COUNTY (WEEK) — State Police say three people – including a 17-year-old – were killed in a car accident in Mason County early Sunday morning.
The accident happened Illinois Route 136 – west of County Road 3700 East – shortly after 1:30 a.m.
An investigation found that a 2017 Hyundai Elantra containing two passengers was traveling westbound, when for unknown reasons, the driver drove over the center line and into the path of a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze traveling eastbound.
Police said both the driver and passenger of the Hyundai were pronounced deceased on scene by responding medical personnel.
The driver of the Chevrolet was also pronounced deceased on scene by responding medical personnel.
The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.
