PEORIA (WEEK) — Dozens of Eureka College athletes teamed up with city leaders Thursday to help clean up the streets.

Around 75 volunteers started off at the former Harrison School building on the south side, and the group eventually made its way to Morton Square Park in the north valley.

Neighborhood Enhancement Coordinator Kaylee Drea said they filled a ton of garbage bags just in time for when kids return to school.

“It’s important to have clean sidewalks for kids to be walking down, so we’re just trying to do our part to help make that happen,” Drea said. “We all live here, so it is a group responsibility to make sure our community is clean and as beautiful as it can be.”

Drea said Thursday’s was one of several cleanup efforts the city has planned to round out the rest of the summer.
