EUREKA (WEEK) – On Monday the superintendent for District #140 emailed parents and said, “reluctantly, they approved a plan which follows Governor Pritzker’s mask mandate.”

Rhoyce McGinnis had five kids attending schools in the district. He was concerned that there were attempts that could have undermined the mandate. He was sent a description for religious exemptions that circulated.

“I got the information from the Parent Teacher Organization with the religious exemptions, as well as a local chiropractor that has been writing out these medical exemptions,” McGinnis said. “They’re really just skirting everything to get what they want and in the meantime I have to worry that my child is gonna come home sick or end up with long-time COVID symptoms.”

Superintendent Bob Bardwell said the district is following the mandate but, “we just feel like we are better suited, especially after what we learned last year, to handle this situation moving forward.”

He also said he knew of no religious exemptions that could be used to avoid the mask.

Kids returned to school on Friday.
