MORTON, Ill (WEEK) – Local employers banded together for one common goal on Monday.
They wanted to find employees and the Greater Peoria Economic Development council stepped in with a hiring extravaganza set for Sept. 1.
“We know that this is an issue across the country. This is just something we’re trying to do to help address here,” Chris Setti, CEO of Greater Peoria EDC, said.
Dozens of companies signed up for the event. On Sept. 1 they donned purple balloons on their property to let people know they’re hiring.
The job opportunities were in many different industries.
“We’re looking for people that are gonna bring that passion and compassion and empathy to that job,” Carol Merna, CEO of the Center for Prevention of Abuse said.
The pandemic unemployment assistance ended on Sept. 4. The event met people when the need arrived.
