MORTON (WEEK) — Despite the hot weather Saturday, the first-ever chili cook-off was held at Potter’s Alley in Morton.

Several participants showed off their best chili recipes and a panel of judges went down the line and took a taste from each pot.

Some of the popular flavors Saturday evening included “Oh My Gurd” and “Rootin’ Tootin’ Country Pumpkin”.

The cook-off is the first of several events surrounding the Morton Pumpkin Festival, and any money raised Saturday goes toward the Morton Youth Baseball Association.

“We just love our Morton youth baseball. So many kids grow up with (it),” said Leigh Ann Brown, executive director of the Morton Chamber of Commerce. “They host a lot of great tournaments in town. Thrilled to be out here.”

The winning recipe will be served at Eli’s Coffee Shop on September 12. There, the community is welcome to come out and try as much as they can eat.
