A woman died after a shooting near a pharmacy in Boston’s Roslindale neighborhood, authorities said.
The shooting happened at about 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of Birch and Corinth streets, not far from Sullivan’s Pharmacy.
The victim suffered life-threatening injuries, and was rushed to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The victim’s family identified her to WCVB as Alicia Heywood.
“At this time, we do not believe this is a random incident and it is currently being investigated by Boston police detectives,” said Boston police Deputy Supt. Victor Evans.
Witnesses say the victim worked at the nearby pharmacy.
A barber who works across the street said he heard multiple gunshots.
“Boom, boom, boom. I kept cutting, then police showed up,” said Raymond LaPenna of Sebastian’s.
“She was so bubbly, she was sweet,” said Robin Lowery, who lives in the same neighborhood as the victim. “I always used to see her. They used to have their parties down here. I would be like, ‘Oh, I wish I was down here having fun with them.'”
Lowery said the victim was a mother.
“She was a wonderful mom. Always did the best for her child,” Lowery said.
As of Friday morning, there was no suspect in custody.
