CHICAGO (WEEK) — With the No. 38 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls selected Illinois guard Ayo Dosunmu.
It was the moment Illini fans have been waiting for since the basketball season ended, getting to watch their star guard get drafted into the NBA, but it turned into a bit of a free fall for the Chicago native.
Dosunmu who was widely viewed as a late first-round pick after the college basketball season concluded, but as the draft got closer some mock drafts had Dosunmu going early in the second-round. The Bulls ended Dosunmu’s fall in the draft and end up with a dynamic young guard who improved each year at Illinois.
Dosunmu’s selection marks the first time an Illini player has been drafted since 2012.
The Bulls are in win-now mode and Dosunmu is viewed as a player who can have an immediate impact as a role player.
