JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — A woman attending a vigil for a man killed in a northern New Jersey shooting was fatally shot herself when someone opened fire on the crowd early Tuesday, authorities said.
The shooting in Jersey City occurred shortly before 1 a.m., according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. Felicia Stewart, a 30-year-old city resident, was hit in the back and was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
It wasn’t immediately clear what sparked the gunfire or if more than one shooter was involved, but no other injuries were reported. No arrests have been made.
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said Stewart was attending a vigil for Raquan Bass, 26, who was fatally shot late Saturday morning at the site where the gathering was being held. A motive for that shooting remains under investigation.
