
A man shot and killed his pregnant ex-wife and her boyfriend at a north Harris County soccer park as the woman’s children and dozens of other teenagers played a tournament, authorities said.
Police said they believe the gunman confronted the couple around 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Matias Almeyda Training Center facility at 4255 Clow Road. Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office found a 35-year-old man dead and a mortally wounded 28-year-old woman, who authorities rushed to a hospital
The woman’s family at the soccer facility identified the suspected gunman as her ex-husband. Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 1, deputies found him about two hours later at a Greater Inwood home in the 7700 block of Bayou Forest, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Beall continued.
He texted relatives that he planned to kill himself, the investigator said.
The suspect and shooting victims were not identified.
The mother had two children playing in the tournament, officials said.
Heldis Inojosa, a Matias Almeyda coach, said his son plays soccer with the woman’s children. Several teenagers were playing on a field at the time of the shooting and that it occurred in the parking lot.
Investigators said more than 100 people were at the facility at the time of the shooting, authorities said. Athletes and their families remained at the facility for at least four hours in the sweltering heat as investigators interviewed them.
