PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A 46-year-old man struck by a vehicle in Providence while crossing the street has died, police said.
Phetsamone Ratsabout had been was attempting to cross the street at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by an SUV. He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the driver stopped immediately and cooperated with their investigation.
They said the driver showed no signs of operating under the influence and that distracted driving does not appear to be a factor.
WPRI-TV reports Ratsabout was struck in an area not marked with a crosswalk and had a disability that required him to use his hands and feet to navigate the roadway.
