2 dead, 1 injured as speeding car flies into swimming pool

CHINO, Calif. (AP) — A speeding car flew into the air and landed in a backyard swimming pool in Southern California, killing two people in the car and injuring a third, authorities said.
Nobody was on the ground when the crash occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. in Chino, east of Los Angeles.
The orange Corvette convertible was going too fast when it failed to make a turn, hit a center median, flew over a hedge and landed in the pool, police and witnesses said. Three people were thrown from the car.
A 21-year-old woman died at the scene. A 27-year-old man died at a hospital and a 23-year-old woman was hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities said.
Art Guerrero, who owns the home, said he heard “a loud screeching” followed by a bang and then moaning. He saw the 23-year-old injured woman.
“The officer was talking to her, ‘stay awake, stay awake,’ trying to keep her up,” Guerrero said
Investigators will try to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
