
Police have identified a 16-year-old and 19-year-old killed in a July 4th shooting at Smale Park near The Banks in Cincinnati that injured three other people.
Milo Watson, 16, and Dexter Wright, Jr., 19, were each killed, said Cincinnati police.
Officers responded at 10:50 p.m. to 1 West Mehring Way and found shooting victims. One of the shooting victims died at the scene and a second person died at the University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center.
A third injured person found by police at the scene was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
There were two other shooting victims who, shortly after the shooting, were taken to the University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center, police said.
Two of the injured victims have minor injuries and one is in critical condition, according to police.
Police have not released any information about suspects.
Colonel Lisa Davis said that 400-500 teenagers were at Smale Park at the time of the incident.
Officers had arrived to begin clearing the park when they heard gunshots, according to police.
This is the first fatal shooting at The Banks since at least 2009 and since Smale Park was officially opened in 2012, according to data from Cincinnati police.
Shootings were rare in the area until last year. Between the beginning of 2009 to the end of 2019, there were three people shot at The Banks. Since the beginning of 2020, there have been 11 people shot in the area, which became a more popular destination during the pandemic.
