Father shot and killed during home invasion

A father, identified as Martin Alamillo by a relative, is dead after multiple people broke into an east Harris County home and he was gunned down, Harris County officials said.

The home invasion happened in the 2400 block of Orange Blossom.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said it started around 10:50 a.m. when a mother and her three children, ages 10 through 17, were home when the four men — wearing body armor, masks, and gloves and carrying high-powered guns — broke into the home looking for money. One of the children was on Facetime when the break-in occurred and Alamillo and a cousin came to the house. Alamillo was shot in the doorway of his home when he arrived. He died at the scene. The suspects fled in a blue Chevy pickup truck.

Law enforcement officers pursued the vehicle and the suspects crashed the vehicle about nine miles from the house and then they fled on foot. One of the men is in custody and authorities are searching for the other three.

The wife and children are being questioned and authorities are looking for video of the scene from neighbors.

“We will hopefully bring an end to this today,” Sgt. D. Wollford said Friday.
