A couple kidnapped a grandmother, then raped and tortured her after she traveled to meet a ‘new friend’, it is claimed. Investigators announced Tuesday that they’d confirmed remains found last month belonged to Rebecca Michelle Fellows, 41, who vanished in Hope Mills, North Carolina, Beverly Ann Harris, 36, and Miguel Angel Navarro, 33, have been arrested on suspicion of Fellows’ first-degree abduction, first-degree rape and first-degree murder. Fellows, a mother of five and grandmother, was last seen around midnight on July 8 getting into a dark gray 2018 Dodge Challenger in Hope Mills.
A Facebook page set up by Fellows’ loved ones said she had been dropped off by a family member on the evening of her death to meet the unidentified ‘new friend.’
Fellows’ family raised the alarm the next morning when she did not appear to pick up her small children – behavior that was extremely out-of-character for the devoted mother.
They reported the disappearance to police, with fears for Fellows growing further after she made no effort to get in touch with family members for her grandchild’s baby shower at the end of July.
The missing woman’s family said she did not have any enemies, and did not appear to have been upset or distressed when she was dropped off on the night of her disappearance.
Police uncovered remains they believed were those of Fellows on September 24, and formally identified her earlier this week.
Harris and Navarro made their first court appearance on Tuesday, and have been held without bond ahead of their next hearing.
Police have yet to say how they knew their alleged victim, or offer a motive for Fellows’ kidnapping, rape and murder.
