ATLANTA (AP) — An Atlanta police officer was shot afternoon, but few details were immediately available.
Atlanta police Officer C.J. Johnson said the shooting happened in Midtown, one of the busiest commercial areas of the city.
Authorities asked the public to avoid a portion of Peachtree Street — a main thoroughfare through the heart of the city.
Video from local television stations showed a large presence of police officers and police cars outside an apartment building in the area.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says it’s investigating the shooting at the Atlanta Police Department’s request. No other details were immediately released.
