EAST PEORIA (WEEK) — Despite the harsh weather to start the weekend, a large group of young fishermen and women took advantage Saturday morning.
The Izaak Walton League Peoria chapter hosted its annual family fishing derby after a canceled 2020.
28 kids made their way to Peoria Lake off Spring Bay Road to catch bluegill, catfish and the occasional largemouth bass.
Prizes were given to the kid who caught the biggest and longest fish.
“It is really good to see all the kids out enjoying the outdoors, our clubhouse and the lake,” vice president Randy Bumbalough said. “Prizes will be a tackle box, fishing poles or brand new stuff.”
Bumbalough said local bait and tackle shops donated the prizes that were given out Saturday, and there was a raffle drawing for a brand new fishing pole.
