* At 938 PM CDT, local law enforcement reported continued impacts
from heavy rain from recent thunderstorms that fell on saturated
ground. Expect standing water on some area roadways and other
low-lying locations to gradually recede through the night. Little
to no additional rain is expected tonight.
Some locations that will continue to experience flooding include…
South Side of Chicago, Hammond, Gary, Tinley Park, Calumet City,
Portage, Merrillville, Chicago Heights, East Chicago,
Schererville, Lansing, Oak Forest, Kankakee, Pontiac, Harvey,
Highland, Munster, Dolton, Park Forest, Homewood, Matteson,
Wilmington and Manhattan.
Expect flooding of creeks, ditches, canals, and storm sewers, as
well as poor drainage areas. Expect flooding of farmland and other
low lying areas in rural areas as well.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
A Flood Advisory means minor flooding along waterways and other poor
drainage areas is occurring. Persons in the advisory area should use
caution and avoid flood waters.
Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
