
Multiple lanes of Interstate 40 westbound and Mt. Juliet Road are closed Wednesday morning due to a deadly crash in which a tractor trailer striking a bridge column and an overpass catching fire.
The driver, identified as 80-year-old Luther Stinson of Nashville, was killed in the crash.
Mt, Juliet Police says TDOT engineers are checking out the area.
All lanes of Mt. Juliet Rd have reopened except for the right northbound lane, which will be closed for an extended period of time to limit weight on the overpass. Two left lanes on I-40WB have reopened.
The tractor trailer apparently also caught fire. It was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
Drivers should expect heavy delays as the investigation continues from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
All lanes of I-40 West and Mt Juliet Rd at the I-40 and Mt. Juliet Rd. interchange are closed due to a cargo fire.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation is reporting a cargo fire on I-40 West in Wilson county.
Mt. Juliet Police say the overpass is now on fire as well.
Structural engineers from TDOT are en route to inspect the bridge overpass before any further lanes can be reopened. One bridge column was struck by a tractor-trailer, which is the only vehicle involved in this crash. THP will handle crash investigation.
The fiery wreck was reported at around 5:30 a.m.
Westbound traffic is shut down due to the fire. Eastbound traffic is affected with rubbernecking delays.
The wreck is estimated to be cleared by 9 a.m.
