Sex attacker raped pensioner, 80, and told her ‘you’re strong like my granny’

A depraved sex attacker raped a frail pensioner in her own home and told her ‘you’re strong like my granny’.
John Laming, 32, has been jailed for eight years after the sickening assault on the 80-year-old woman last Christmas Eve.
Laming targeted his terrified victim when she was asleep in bed, just 12 days after being released from prison.
She screamed for help, but when no one appeared to respond, Laming taunted her: ‘Some neighbours you have got’.
The former heating engineer then sat down to drink a can of juice before fleeing the scene in Rutherglen, close to Glasgow.
But he returned moments later after dropping his vape e-cigarette at the property
Laming was arrested for the vile crime after being found hiding in a garden close to a house he shares with his mum in Rutherglen.
He pleaded guilty to assault and rape.
Sentencing him at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Lady Stacey said: ‘What you did was a terrible crime. You should be completely ashamed.
‘It must have been extremely frightening for the woman involved.
‘She was in her own home minding her own business.’
Laming’s criminal record includes a four-year sentence for robbery
He was released from prison on December 12 last year, prosecutor Kath Harper said.
The victim, who has lifelong anonymity, was woken by the sound of smashing glass around midnight.
She bravely confronted Laming, before ordering him out and tackling him.
Miss Harper told the court: ‘She reached for a metal pole used to open her window. She tried to hit him with it.’
The victim also pressed her panic alarm, but it failed to work.
She ended up on her bed with Laming leaning over her.
She pleaded: ‘What are you doing this to an 80-year-old lady for?’ before he raped her.
Laming then helped the woman onto a chair and told her to make a cup of tea.
Miss Harper added: ‘He said she was “strong like his granny”.
‘He asked if she had any alcohol.
‘The woman told him she did not, but there was some juice.
‘He took a can and told her she had a much nicer house than him.’
The victim raised the alarm with her daughter before police also attended.
She suffered multiple bruises and was taken to hospital where she tearfully told a medic ‘I fought back’.
Laming was also placed on the sex offenders list and will be supervised for a further four years on his release.
