2 fatal shootings in St. Louis area could be linked

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Police are investigating the possibility that two shootings less than an hour apart in suburban St. Louis over the weekend are related.

The first shooting happened around 11 p.m. in University City, when 70-year-old Barbara Goodkin was shot in the head as she and her husband were traveling in a car. Goodkin’s husband, Stanley Goodkin, was also shot in the torso and a leg, police said. Both were rushed to a hospital, where Barbara Goodkin died of her injuries.

Less than an hour later in Brentwood, about 3 miles away, Sergei Zacharev was fatally shot in a hotel parking lot, the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis said. Zacharev, 53, was an anesthesiologist who lived in Town and Country.

Police said they’re unaware of any links between the victims, but that forensic evidence connects both shootings. Investigators are searching for a small silver or metallic sport utility vehicle that may have been involved in the shootings, and police asked that anyone with information call CrimeStoppers.
