Child, 7, killed, teen wounded in NJ stabbing

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — A stabbing in a New Jersey apartment killed a 7-year-child and wounded a 17-year-old youth, authorities said.

Police were called to the 3rd-floor unit in Paterson just after 7 a.m. and found the two juveniles with stab wounds, Passaic County prosecutors said.

Both were rushed to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where the 7-year-old was pronounced dead, prosecutors said. The teenager was treated and released.

Authorities had no immediate information about any arrests or suspects. Police referred questions to the prosecutor’s office.

Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh provided no further information but called it an “act of domestic violence,” reported.

“The news of an act of domestic violence that resulted in the loss of life for a young child is gut wrenching. Our community is grieving,” Sayegh said in a statement, adding that as a father he was “shocked and saddened by what occurred this morning.”

Authorities continue to investigate and asked anyone with information to call detectives or the prosecutor’s office.
