SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A man and two women are dead after, police said, the man barricaded himself inside a home in Southwest Miami-Dade and opened fire, also injuring his father at some point during the ordeal.
7News cameras captured a heavy police presence at the home in the area of Southwest 191th Terrace and 129th Avenue, including members of Miami-Dade Police’s Special Response Team.
Several officers were seen with their guns drawn behind a cruiser.
Investigators believe the chaotic set of events may have begun as a domestic dispute that escalated, just before 5 p.m.
“We can confirm that it is domestic in nature. We’re not discarding the possibility that it was over a dispute,” said Miami-Dade Police spokesperson Angel Rodriguez. “However, we’re not ruling out the possibility that it could have been something else.”
At some point, detectives said, the subject discharged a firearm inside the residence.
Cellphone video captured apparent gunshots coming from the home.
Responding officers arrived to find the subject barricaded inside the home.
“As soon as I saw that, I got really scared, and I raced home,” said a woman who lives in the area. “I was with my grandmother, too.”
Detectives said the subject shot and killed the two women inside and shot his father in the lower body.
Officials said the original 911 call came from neighbors after the injured father ran out of the home to alert them.
“The officers who were on the scene attempting to make contact with this individual were unable to do so,” said Rodriguez, “and the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Special Response Team made entry into the residence, and upon doing so, discovered a deceased adult male and two deceased adult females.”
Paramedics transported the subject’s father to an area hospital in stable condition.
Police said there were two children inside the home as the shooting unfolded. They were not hurt.
Investigators are attempting to determine what happened and how the subject and the women knew each other.
