TROY, N.Y. (AP) — Fire officials say a child died in an early morning fire that spread to four buildings in Troy.
The Albany Times Union reports that four buildings and eight apartments saw significant damage, with 20 people displaced.
Fire Chief Eric McMahon said the fire was under investigation. The child’s age and cause of death were not known, he said.
One additional person was taken to a hospital for burns, McMahon said. That person’s condition was unknown.
Firefighters received the call about a child trapped in a fire at 388 Fourth St. shortly after 5 a.m.
McMahon said firefighters who arrived at the scene found a heavy fire on the wood-frame building’s first floor. The fire then spread to nearby buildings.
