BYRNES MILL, Mo. (AP) — A couple and their infant son have died in a crash along a rural road in eastern Missouri, and a driver involved in the crash has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. authorities said.
The crash happened just after 10 p.m. on state Highway 30 near Byrnes Mill.
Investigators with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened when a car driven by a 26-year-old man rear-ended another car, sending both vehicles off the road and into a stand of trees.
Three people in the car that was rear-ended died, officials said.
The dead were identified as driver Lacey Newton, 25; her fiancé Cordell Williams, 30; and their 4-month-old son. The couple also had two other young children, who were staying with Williams’ mother at the time of the crash, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
The 26-year-old driver who was arrested suffered only minor injuries, authorities said.
