Two men were killed in separate shootings less than an hour apart in Baltimore, police said, bringing to seven the total number of people shot in the city since midnight.
Shortly after 2 p.m. Northern District patrol officers responded to the 2800 block of Edgecombe Circle in the Parklane neighborhood for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was found inside an apartment on the block, police said.
He was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.
Less than an hour later, police responded to the 1000 block of N. Broadway in the Gay Street neighborhood in Northeast Baltimore. When officers arrived they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Baltimore city medics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The two afternoon homicides follow a violent morning in which five people, all adults, were shot in downtown Baltimore around 1:11 a.m. in the 300 block of N. Eutaw Street. One person was left in critical condition while all other four victims are in stable condition, police said.
The shootings follow an Easter weekend during which two people were shot to death and four injured.
Baltimore Police have not provided names of any suspects or motives for any of the crimes.
Baltimore City has seen 77 homicides so far this year, amounting to five more killings than at this same time last year. Nonfatal shootings have also slightly outpaced last year at 146 compared with 141, according to Baltimore Police data.
Homicide detectives have taken control of both fatal shooting investigations.
