PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A 32-year-old man was shot to death in Providence over the weekend and his friend has been charged with the killing, police said Monday.
David Camacho, of Providence, was shot multiple times at about 3 a.m., Maj. David Lapatin said at a news conference. He was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle where he was pronounced dead.
Police learned that Camacho and Kenneth Hernandez, 32, had been at a nightclub together prior to the shooting and were in the same car heading to an after-hours party, Lapatin said. Two other friends were following in another vehicle.
The friends in the second vehicle found Camacho lying in the street outside the parked car, which had both its doors open.
Hernandez was not at the scene, but later agreed to talk to police and was arrested.
Lapatin said the motive remains unclear.
Hernandez was held without bail at his arraignment on first-degree murder and gun charges Monday. No defense attorney was listed in court records and he was referred to the public defender’s office. He did not enter a plea.
