Officers shoot armed man in Coon Rapids

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (AP) — A man who police say refused commands to drop his gun was shot by officers in Coon Rapids.
The man was taken to Mercy Hospital and then to Hennepin County Medical Center where he is reportedly in stable condition.
According to police, a relative of the 26-year-old man called 911 and said the man was having mental health issues, was carrying a gun and was a possible threat.
Officers caught up with the man walking along a residential street and tried to get him to put down the gun. Authorities say that when he refused, officer fired bean bag rounds, striking the man. He continued to walk through a wooded area. Officers tried another bean bag round, but the armed man continued walk away.
Two officers then fired their service weapons, striking the man. Paramedics were nearby and administered first aid. No officers were wounded during the incident.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting.
