A 14-year-old boy is expected to be tried in Maryland after he was charged with the rape and murder of an 83-year-old elderly woman, according to a Baltimore police source.
The police spokesman said child laws in Maryland allow child Tyrone Harvin to be tried as an adult even though he is only 14 years old.
“Harvin” was accused of sexually assaulting 83-year-old Dorothy May Neal, before severely beating her to death after she was taken to hospital, where doctors tried to save her, to no avail.
Police spokesman T Smith expressed his surprise that a young child committed such a heinous crime against an old woman, and added, “We thought that a strong young man was the one who committed this heinous act. He did not know in our minds that a young boy was the criminal.”
“Smith” stated that Harvin was charged with first degree murder and rape, in addition to many other charges. According to court records on the Internet, a preliminary hearing will be held to consider the charges against Harvin.
