LAS VEGAS (AP) — One person died and at least three others were hurt as they were rescued from a burning apartment not far from the Las Vegas Strip, authorities said.
Clark County Fire Battalion Chief Rian Glassford said the fire was reported a little before 11 a.m. at a two-story building, and arriving firefighters battled flames that burned from a downstairs unit through the roof.
“When they made their way closer to the apartment, they got some calls for help and there were people trapped inside,” Glassford told reporters. “They immediately went into rescue mode and went in to save the people.”
Three people were hospitalized with unspecified injuries, Glassford said.
Several adjoining four-unit apartment buildings in the closely built complex were evacuated and Glassford said the American Red Cross was helping displaced neighbors.
The cause of the fire was being investigated.
