Two sisters were shot dead by their father during the night, according to Columbus Police.
Then the father pointed the gun at himself, killing his life.
The call initially came as a home turmoil.
Alice Williams, 6, and Ava Williams, 9, were shot shortly before 10:30 pm. In Block 800 of Danwood Drive on New Years Day. They were taken to Ohio Health Doctors’ Hospital but passed away early in the morning.
Investigators believe that Aaron Williams, 32, shot the children before he committed suicide.
Officers spent hours investigating the scene in the Cherry Creek neighborhood on Danwood Drive in the far west side of town.
The neighbors were sad to hear the news.
Tami Messer said, “It’s horrible.” It’s just terrible. I pray for them. They are angels now. “
The official Twitter account of Columbus Police confirmed that the victims were sisters and that the suspect was their father.
Columbus Police Chief Thomas Quinlan issued a statement regarding the deaths.
“Overnight, our officers responded to a horrific tragedy – two young girls, ages 6 and 9, shot dead by their father, who then committed suicide,” Quinlan said. “Our hearts are broken for their distressed mother, and everyone who loved them. This morning I didn’t just think of them – but the officers were affected by this shock.”
Support officers responded to the scene to provide moral support to the squad members. These officers often respond to traumatic events that police officers face.
“Behind every badge is a human being – a mother, a father, a sister, or a brother. And while we have a job to do – work that we have recorded – we are also in pain. We mourn for these families,” Quinlan’s statement said. “I am working to make sure that the officers who responded to this call have all the support they need.”
