2 killed and 14 wounded in a shooting at a home party in Rochester

Two young men were killed and 14 people were injured in the largest Rochester shooting incident in memory, an act of violence that occurred at a backyard house party with more than 100 attendees.

The violence took place on Pennsylvania Avenue, in a house not far from Rochester Public Market.

The identities of the two victims, a man and a woman, have not been announced, pending notification of the closest relatives. Acting Police Chief Mark Simmons said the victims were in their late teens or early twenties.

“It is truly a tragedy of epic proportions,” Simmons said in a news briefing at 3:45 am at the scene. “Sixteen victims have not been heard from, and for our society, which is now going through a lot, this tragedy must be dealt with unnecessarily, because people who decided to act in a violent manner is unfortunate and shameful, and we will do everything in our power as an administration to bring these concerned people to justice.” .

The police chief said he did not believe that any of the bullet wounds sustained by the 14 victims in the shooting were life threatening. Their ages ranged from 17 to 23, according to an RPD statement issued.

Two others were wounded while fleeing the shooting, Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit tweeted just before 5 am.

Simmons said there are no suspects in custody. No motive for violence is known. He said it was too early to tell if multiple shooters were responsible.

Yasmine Lopez and John Santiago woke up after midnight to gunshots. They found two teenagers hiding in their path. “You could see the fear in his eyes,” said Santiago. “He was scared.” Get in the car and drive away.

They said the scene was chaotic. “There were children vomiting, hiding in the bush, and bleeding,” said Lopez. She said her first two calls to 911 were not answered

When the police arrived, they saw dozens of people fleeing the scene and found several people had been shot. Simmons described it as “a very messy scene”.
