Authorities said a small plane collided with a semi-truck in the Port of Los Angeles at the Port of San Pedro, killing one person and hospitalizing another in at least severe condition.
The accident involving the single-engine plane took place at around 12:00 noon. On Block 2500 of Naval Road, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The agency said in a statement that bystanders pulled the male pilot from the wreckage and were directed to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation by the fire department official until the firefighters arrived and received medical care. The Libyan Armed Forces said that this man was declared dead at the scene.
The hospitalized truck passenger was identified as only a 30-year-old man.
A news video from the site showed the wreckage of the fixed-wing aircraft near the damaged semi-truck, which did not have an attached trailer.
The authorities described the site as an isolated area in the port, adding that the port’s operations were not affected.
